What are infrared or deep red LED strips intended for?

All light is electromagnetic radiation. The wavelength of light indicates which color we perceive with our eyes. It is measured in "nanometers", abbreviated as nm, and indicates how fast the electromagnetic radiation vibrates. With infrared radiation, this vibration is a bit "slower". Infrared has a wavelength of 780nm or longer. Visible light has a wavelength between 380 and 780 nanometers, so infrared is invisible. We can only feel it as heat. An infrared sauna, for example, makes use of infrared radiation. The radiation produced by the lamps in such a sauna cabin is almost invisible to the eye, but can only be felt as heat.
We often talk about infrared "radiation" instead of light because it is invisible. However, radiation and light are exactly the same: electromagnetic radiation. Only electromagnetic radiation in the visible spectrum (380-780nm) is called "light" and all electromagnetic radiation outside of that range is referred to as "radiation".

At the moment, we have two wavelengths in this category: 740nm and 850nm.

Deep Red (740nm)

The wavelength 740nm is actually not infrared but deep red. This light is just visible to the eye and appears as a faint red glow. However, this type of light has a beneficial effect on plants and animals. Firstly, it can be felt as heat, but it also stimulates plant growth, for example. It is also healthy for people: It can be used as light therapy to boost your energy level and can also be used to counteract depression during the dark months.

Infrared (850nm)

Infrared radiation/light with a wavelength of 850nm is completely invisible and can only be felt as heat. This type of radiation also has therapeutic purposes and can be used for muscle relaxation, improving blood circulation, detoxification, and much more. This type of infrared is also used for various special purposes: For example, to detect an object as it passes a certain spot. Motion detection systems work in this way and are used, for instance, in industrial applications such as on a conveyor belt. The LED strip emits infrared light, and an infrared sensor (PIR) is placed opposite it. When an object passes in front of the sensor, the sensor temporarily "sees" no infrared radiation and the system knows that an object is present.

Wattage and Number of LEDs per Meter

When comparing the light output of two LED strips, you can get confused by the different specifications available. A rule of thumb you can use is to only look at the wattage. An LED strip may use different LEDs that are, for example, brighter or less bright, so the number of LEDs per meter does not tell the whole story. By comparing only the wattage of two LED strips, you can get a good idea of the light output. Connecting LED Strips to a Power Adapter

The LED strips on this page all operate on 12 or 24 volts. This means that you also need a transformer to connect them to 230V. The transformer (also called a power adapter or adapter) is chosen based on the wattage of the LED strip. For example, if you want to connect 30 watts of LED strip, you need a power adapter of at least 30 watts. If you want to connect 10 meters of LED strip at 12 watts per meter, then the adapter must be at least 120 watts. You can always choose an adapter that is a bit more powerful than necessary, as it will never supply more power than needed.
